St Patrick's Day! War Paint and Shamrocks...

Here's a little info on my heritage. I'm a mutt. I'm mostly Irish/Scottish, with Cherokee, German, French Canadian, and some rumored Spanish mixed in. Mom claims that I must have some African blood too...but I haven't proved that yet.

My great-great-great-great grandmother on my dad's side was full-blooded Cherokee...see!

Her name was Elezene Cohen Bryant.

Anyway, today I painted the boy's faces for St Paddy's Day. Kyon came up with the idea of making it "war paint" and I added shamrocks for my Irish blood. Enjoy!

Anger Management/Pillow Fight! (3-15-10)

We did an anger management class this past Monday, which consisted of a  Biblical lesson...and a pillow fight! Follow along with me...

This is Angry Adam...he needs help understanding and controlling his anger.

Angry Adam is afraid that anger is a sin.....

Anger is not a sin....

HOW you handle your anger is where sinful actions take place...

Adam decides to go over some coping skills for his anger...

Here's a few of them...

And a serenity prayer...

And some words to live by...

A very wise quote...

All of which leads to a...

After the lesson, we did an activity. The boys were challenged to pillow fight one another, but to recognize when they begin to feel anger towards their partner and take themselves out of the challenge.  I'm proud to report they did an excellent job!

And now...PILLOW FIGHT!!!!!

Playing Catch-Up...11/100 to 18/100

I'm so far behind! I worked all weekend and didn't have computer access, then had a raging migraine Monday and Tuesday. I'm finally starting to get a little caught up.

My friend Jeremy, who leads the music at our Saturday night church service.

We serve coffee at our church service, for donation only. We buy the beans directly from third-world farmers, so they get all the profits.

I wanted to show you guys how I spend my Saturday nights. I've found an amazing group of people who don't view the Bible as a text book, or Jesus as a hate-filled man. Hope you enjoyed it!

AUGH!!!

I'm 8 days behind! Good grief....

I'm on it.

10/100

Every day that I'm with my boys, I try to teach them that they can achieve anything in the world that they put their mind to. I'm very hard on my boys...to the point that some people think I'm TOO hard (although, all my Southern Mommas would totally disagree!).

Tonight, during devotions, we were just talking and relaxing. I shared some personal things about my life and then I asked them if they knew why it is that I'm so hard on them. I completely expected to hear, "Because you're mean." Or, "Because you're white."

Instead, one boy said, "Because you love us."

Another one said, "You want what's best for us."

I was speechless.
I love my boys...

This is the door that I painted with chalkboard paint. I try to
keep a new inspirational quote each week.
This is the one I put up today:

This is the little chalkboard I painted on my door. I write a
smaller quote on this one, usually related to Christ.
This is today's:

We had our Valentine's Dance tonight at the Mission. I decided that I would dress up and look like a female for once. The results were pretty funny! One of my boys saw me and said, "Miss Amber! You look so....weird!" Then ran to the bathroom and whispered..."Miss Amber looks pretty!"

And THAT is a memory I'll never forget!

Here is a photo of myself and my boys. These kids are my heart.

This is such a bad photo from a photography stance, but I love this can. Arizona brand, Southern-style sweet tea. Makes me think of me.

I'm always so weirded out when I see a mud puddle that's frozen. Not to mention, I'm also always so weirded out when I slip on mud and almost fall...

A Friend and A Challenge

My insanely beautiful friend KimberlE challenged me to take a photo a day for 100 days. I agreed, so we'll be starting the upcoming week.

It doesn't have to be a fantastic photo, or one that makes a huge statement to the world. It just has to be a photo that I snapped.

It should help BOTH of us reach out for inspiration in our everyday lives and help us to see things in a new way.

A Show Low Sunday

I decided to take a drive today and see what I could find on the backroads right around the Mission. Turns out, now a lot. I took a few shots, but nothing really great. However, I did enjoy getting to see a huge, wide open, bright blue sky and snow patches.
I tend to live inside my head. And I really enjoy the fulfillment that I get from singing at the top of my lungs, driving around aimlessly, soaking in the sights that I get to see. Here are a few from today...
